In her last will and testament Selma Lagerlöf wrote that Mårbacka should be preserved as a memorial estate and be shown to the public. When you accompany our guides around the house you will learn about the author and Nobel Laureate Selma Lagerlöf.
The exquisite original furniture, fittings and paintings are the perfect setting to create the feeling and atmosphere she was surrounded by. Selma Lagerlöf had the present building constructed in 1921–1923
The estate is hold in trust by the Mårbacka Foundation.
The receipts we get through your visits must cover the cost to operate and maintain the estate. Larger renovations of the historical buildings are partly, project by project, covered by governmental grants.
